THE SLUISKILTUNNEL: NICE WORK OF BOORBARA

To relieve the traffic bottleneck between Terneuzen and Ghent currently a tunnel is realized; The Sluiskil tunnel. The bored tunnel with two tubes is approximately 1330 meters long, has a diameter of 11 meters and the deepest point is 34 meters.

The tunnel drillingmachine (named Boorbara) starts and ends by a dense block of cement, so the drill has a good connection to the entrances. We have waterproofed the openings between the blocks and the sheet piling using injections with MBA-4. In this way the required hole could be burned without water flooding.
